Preparing our Future Technopreneurs at FEU Diliman

Posted: 2019-01-16

I could see a lot of potential in students who have fresh ideas about creating new cool technologies. However, most of them don’t know how to start, says Professor Joie Ann Maghanoy, full-time faculty at FEU Tech.

I decided to talk about Technopreneurship and Funding of Great Ideas, to encourage them to share their out-of-the-box ideas and make them happen.

Held at FEU Diliman’s Audio-Visual Room, the seminar was attended by Senior High School students from the Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strands. It was actually a good venue to discuss technopreneurship since most of them have backgrounds about business and technology, she adds.

Aside from showing the students inspiring videos of successful technopreneurs like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, Prof. Joie also shared her own experience. I have joined a lot of hack-a-thons wherein we pitched our ideas to investors and almost made it to the top. It was a super-condensed learning experience on how a random idea can be a great help to many. That’s why I encouraged them to experience it on their own to gain more practical knowledge, learn new things, make new friends and who knows they could be the next Jack Ma of Alibaba or Travis Kalanick of Uber.

FEU Diliman is helping their Senior High School students make informed decisions about their tertiary education with a series of educational workshops.
